Content

  • Theological and ecclesiological meaning of an “ecumenical council.”
  • Synopsis of the first Seven Councils on the backdrop of their controversies.
  • History of the Seven Councils as a history of the Church, its dogmas and canons.

Objective

To trace the emergence of the Oriental Churches from the controversies that gave rise to the Seven Councils, showing how they reflect the respective dogmatico-canonical patrimony, and to illustrate their interpretation by individual churches.
